Grenache Gris: A rare gem of the wine world 🤍
Grenache Gris produces world-class wines defined by texture, minerality, richness, and elegance. A close relative of Grenache Noir and Blanc, its heartland is Roussillon in southern France, with historic plantings also found in Spain – Catalonia and Rioja. With structure and depth reminiscent of (far more expensive) white Hermitage, this regal variety is one of our all-time favourites. Start your exploration here.
New Releases from Balestri Valda
“We say no to chemicals and grow our vines and olive trees according to the principles of organic viticulture with every agricultural practice being an expression of our deep respect for nature and harmony with our ecosystem. That’s why we started beekeeping with enthusiasm. Our happy bees prove that protecting biodiversity is possible and a duty we take on with pleasure.” – Laura Rizzotto
Balestri Valda is a family-run estate led by Laura Rizzotto, a beekeeper and passionate advocate for biodiversity, who cares for her organically farmed vineyards and olive groves with dedication.
Showcasing Garganega and the native Trebbiano di Soave, the wines of Balestri Valda are alive, textured, and precise – testament to the meticulous vineyard work and gentle, thoughtful winemaking that define this estate.
Italian Producer Focus:
Di Baldo - Rimini, Emilia-Romagna
Alchemist, perfumer, nose and revolutionary liquorist, Baldo Baldinini is quietly and humbly redefining the world of gin and aromatised wines, specifically vermouth and amaro. He has set the bar so high that it’s near impossible for anyone to rival his creations.
We are beyond proud to present the master's work in Australia.
Welcome to Mountain & Row
Artisan European wine — for serious drinkers, for the curious, and for those who care deeply about where their wine comes from. Mountain & Row is Melbourne's gateway to the European culture of wine: a way to travel from your table, to discover the people, places, and traditions behind every bottle.
Alongside the indigenous and lesser-known Italian grape varieties we love to champion, we specialise in Nebbiolo, Grenache, and Syrah in all their forms — Barolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont, the high-altitude reds of Valtellina and Alto Piemonte, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Roussillon from the south of France, old-vine Garnacha from Rioja and Navarra. We are equally obsessed with white wine: crisp, mineral alpine styles from the Alps, Pyrenees and Dolomites, and rich, textural whites from the Mediterranean. Every bottle is chosen for what it says about its place: small family estates, organically farmed vineyards, and winemakers who'd rather make 3,000 bottles of something extraordinary than 30,000 of something forgettable. You won't find big brands or commercial labels here — just genuinely characterful wine at prices that respect both the producer and the drinker.
We bring the same obsession to our vermouth, amaro, and spirits — because what you drink alongside great wine matters too.
Grape Focus: Freisa
Freisa is a native Piedmontese grape known for its vivid acidity, lush tannins and vibrant fruit. Expect wines with juicy raspberry and sour cherry, often layered with spice, florals and a savoury edge.

HOW WE CHOOSE
We source directly from small estates and trusted importers who share our obsession with place — growers who farm with care and strive to express their vineyards and culture. Our selection is hand-picked for purity of fruit, personality, and a clear sense of where a wine comes from. We favour organically and biodynamically farmed fruit, minimal intervention in the cellar, and wines that are honest expressions of their land — free from the shortcuts and additives that plague commercial production. We reject faulty wine without hesitation — cork taint, oxidation, reduction. If it's not right, it doesn't make it to your door. Each producer we work with is making wine worth talking about.
