Cave Mont Blanc 'Rayon' Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle DOC 2019

Since 1983 Cave Mont Blanc have made Italy's finest aperitif white wines from the ancient grape Prié Blanc. Grown at the foot of Mont Blanc, the vines are trained on low pergola systems (pickers often sit down to harvest) in the furthest, Frenchiest, reaches of Valle d'Aosta - the country's smallest region. Due to the extreme location and sandy, rocky soils, rootstocks are still ungrafted and are found up to 1200 metres above sea level. 'Rayon' is a selection of the best fruit, hand picked across multiple little vineyards and a step up in intensity from the general Blanc bottling. Indigenous yeast ferments the juice in stainless steel and the wine is bottled lightly filtered with some CO2 remaining as a natural way of preservation - the very delicate spritz is a tantalizing textural feature of the region. Often coming in at 11.5% abv, these almost mystical white wines are in a timeless category of their own. White floral aspects, mineral saltiness and mountain herbs are common notes that add delicate intricacy to the citrus and light orchard fruits.
