Ghemme is Alto Piemonte’s second largest and second well known region. It is on the right bank of the Sesia river, opposite Gattinara and at a lower altitude. As well as its elevation, soil makeup is quite different due to its formation in the wake of the retreating Monte Rosa glacier. In comparison to Gattinara the wines are generally a little fatter and darker fruited (not a bad thing at all!)
