Sizzano DOC

Province of Novara / created 1969

Vineyard Area (2020):

Approx. 13 hectares between the limits of 200-350 metres above sea level.

Soil:

Clay, alluvial, sand

Grapes:

50-70% Nebbiolo, 30-50% combined of Uva Rara (Bonarda Novarese) and/or Vespolina, maximum 10% other red grapes.

Ageing:

22 months total with 16 in wood. Riserva 34 months total with 24 in wood.

The influence of Nebbiolo continues in tiny Sizzano, the next step from Ghemme south towards Novara and the Po Valley. The wines can be fruitier and more open but still structured and long lived. This is one of the smallest DOCs in Piedmont.
